THE IT Protective Security Services Sdn Bhd (ITPSS) through the Brunei Computer Emergency Response Team (BruCERT) held a briefing for penghulu, village heads and members of mnukim and village consultative council (MPMK) in the Belait District at the Belait District Officer’s residence yesterday.
The briefing aimed to raise awareness on social media safety and sought to disseminate information on several cybercrimes such as sexual grooming and online and SMS scams.
Network and System Engineer/Trainer Security at BruCERT Pengiran Mohd Farid Zulhusni bin Pengiran Aziz, said the briefing is a continuous effort by BruCERT to promote awareness on cybercrimes and the dangers they pose to society.
“We conducted a similar briefing in the Brunei-Muara and Tutong districts. We hope to continue the briefing in the Temburong District,” he said.
“Most of us are familiar with IT (Information Technology). To keep us safe, it is imperative that one should understand the several hazards that exist on the platform and how to avoid falling victim to those hazards,” he added.
Since its inception in 2004, BruCERT has conducted briefings to provide free cybersecurity awareness talks for educational institutions throughout the country.
